Article 1: Make Region Safer For Walkers, Cyclists

In this article the author makes claims that the Tampa Bay area is one of the most dangerous places for pedestrian walkers and bikers. The argument is made that cars and driving has become safer but there has been no regard made for pedestrians. Also a study referenced in the article showed that minority groups are more likely to be victims of accidents and those in lower income neighborhoods are 2.5 times more likely to die as a pedestrian. The problem presented in the article is that nothing is being done to keep walkers and cyclists safe as cars become more and more prevalent on our roads. The problem effects pedestrians, but it a problem that is also a responsibility of drivers.

Article 2: Tourism Agency Needs Sunshine

In this article the author brings to light an internal issue in the tourism department of Pinellas county. The CEO of a public agency called "Visit St.Pete/Clearwater" had been using part of the tourism profits for his own benefit and had been violating many of the county policies regarding the county credit cards and vacation days. However no one was actually keeping track of his indevers until recently when they notice a lot of the numbers were not adding up. The problem presented in the article is the lack of accountability, along with the lack of system checks. The county is the one who has the problem and needs to find a better way of keeping track of their money.

In this article the author shows the current state of a water project taking place in Clearwater, Florida. It is similar to one that took place in California in 2008, but the project has been slowly moving along. The problem at hand is that there is not a reasonable place to build the facility. Another problem is that the aquifers need replenishing and they are trying to figure out how to manage that. Those who are effected are: The Tampa Bay residents, and the contractors and researchers involved in the project.

In this article the author expresses her concern of coyotes. Coyotes are a pretty large problem in the Pinellas County area. There are always reports coming in of Coyotes in residential areas and apparently its a bigger deal than assumed. Coyotes are good at adapting to their environment as the natural environment changes which has caused to be present in peculiar places like beach neighborhoods and parks. The problem is that coyotes are present in places that are not suppose to be, causing residential areas to have a fear of attacks. This problem affects those in the residential areas with coyote populations.

This article is about a group a sailors rallying together to help others when things turn to the worst. Specifically, the crew on a sailboat were on a journey to the Caribbean during a storm when a Coast Guard plane radioed for their help with a search. The sailors agreed to help and followed the signals of the plane. Although they were not able to recover a body it showed the willingness of the boating community to come together for a good cause. However the problem is that more of these accidents of over turned boats and missing bodies are occurring. The community of boaters are the ones that are directly effected by this problem.

  1. Hey. I really related to your coyote example. I am from Tampa and have heard of the problem. My grandparents live in Pinellas and have told me stories of people getting their pets attacked. People have to be careful of having outdoor cats, because the coyotes see them as dinner.
